Description
Poppies have been used as a symbol for those who have given up there lives at war, since World War One. Some of the heaviest fighting of the great war was seen at Flanders in Belgium. One of the only things that managed to grow through all this destruction and devastation was the poppy and John McCrae a doctor with the Canadian Armed Forces was there to witness the horrors and wrote a poem called "In Flanders Fields". This was to inspire a major annual event in Britain called the Poppy Appeal and on the 11th of November, poppies are worn, in remembrance to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
