I decided to leave the sky as it was to give the impression that the people were even smaller and model like.

yup i like the sky as it is, too. feels wrong if the very bright blue at the top disappears.

cool idea, dont think it works though, the dof is to umm there isnt enough depth over the whole image... as if you have just added a blur over the top and bottom

Great shot !! The thing i like about it is that all the people in the shot are either looking in side the frame or at each other. that keeps the eye engaged and make it more interesting. Good use of tilt shift.
Now I see what you mean about the extra space in the sky,
But you might still try cropping some at the top. Still maintaining a longer aspect ratio.
